A warm darkness blankets downtown Atlanta as Angel McCoughtry’s luxury BMW, bathed in metallic white, suddenly whips around the corner like a supermodel on a catwalk and pierces the still black night, much the way McCoughtry pierces through defenses every night. If you didn’t know that the Atlanta Dream forward was a star, you would automatically assume so, judging by the herd of photographers greeting her as she pulls up to the Suite Lounge for an exclusive party in her honor.
It’s been quite a week for McCoughtry. The six-year superstar out of the University of Louisville has just been named the WNBA’s Eastern Conference Player of the Week for the 13th time in her career and second time this year. She is one of the leading vote getters — again — for the upcoming WNBA All Star Game in Phoenix. And her Atlanta Dream team enters the halfway point enjoying an enviable perch atop the Eastern Conference standings with a 15-5 record, second best in all of women’s basketball.
McCoughtry’s fruitful July was punctuated the unveiling of her provocative and highly-artful nude photo spread for ESPN Magazine’s highly-anticipated “The Body” issue. The 27-year-old Baltimore native arrived at the celebrity-rich party to unveil that issue, cloaked in a body-hugging, two piece yellow dress that accentuated her very voluptuous frame.
She even walks charismatically.
She was joined at the Suite by many of her Dream teammates as well as actress-singer Demetria McKinney, Dj Traci Steele, Mali Hunter, Big Tigger and, most of all, her family and friends.
Take a look at the photographic highlights from the private party to celebrate the ESPN Magazine “The Body” issue featuring Olympic Gold Medal winner Angel McCoughtry, one of the most prolific scorers in WNBA history.
