Neighborhood Service Organization recognizes individuals, businesses and organizations at Inspired Life Awards

nsoNeighborhood Service Organization (NSO) recently announced the recipients of its 2014 awards at the nonprofit’s Inspired Life Awards held at the Julian C. Madison Building in Detroit. The event celebrated the consumers who inspire the organization every day, as well as individuals and organizations that help NSO make a difference in the lives of many in the community.
Said NSO President and CEO Sheilah P. Clay: “We recognize our success would be impossible if not for some very special people and organizations that inspire and support us. They share our values, believe in our mission and are driven by a spirit to make a difference.”
At the ceremony, Leslie Andrews, on behalf of Quicken Loans, and David Schmehl, on behalf of Behavioral Health Professionals, Inc. (BHPI), accepted the President’s Awards, which recognize individuals, companies or organizations that have had a lasting impact on NSO programs and services or the human services field. The award recipients are selected by Clay.
Quicken Loans has been a partner and constant supporter of NSO for several years. Since the relationship began, the Detroit-based mortgage lender generously donated $350,000 to the NSO Bell Building Capital Campaign and numerous team members, including those from other Rock Ventures Family of Companies, have volunteered time after time at the organization’s consumer activities. In addition, team members from its sister company Quizzle, spent time educating Bell Building residents and consumers at the NSO Harper-Gratiot Multi-Service Center on credit ratings and how to improve them.
BHPI was founded in 2002 by NSO and seven other key mental health nonprofit organizations that serve Detroit collaboratively, to focus on consumer-centered care. Under the leadership of Schmehl, BHPI and its subsidiary entities, CareLink and ConsumerLink, have created a network of more than 200 providers who provide quality programs to individuals and families with proven outcomes, such as reducing State hospital costs to Wayne County by nearly 40 percent. A leader in mental health and integrated healthcare legislative areas that impact NSO’s consumers, BHPI also is a supporter of NSO annual activities including consumer events and fundraisers such as NSO’s In Their Shoes 5K Run & Walk.
“Quicken Loans and BHPI have provided NSO with much more than financial assistance. Their employees have become like family – working tirelessly to improve and support the lives of our consumers,” said Clay. “I cannot thank their leadership and team members enough for all they have given to NSO.”
NSO also bestowed its Champion Awards to organizations, companies and individuals that have championed the work of NSO by providing resources or creating community awareness benefiting the consumers NSO serves.
