MARTA Rail service into and out of the Civic Center station just outside downtown was shut down on Tuesday, July 8, while local police and federal officials investigated a suspicious package.
Officials with the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority tweeted at 9:39 a.m. that there was “no rail service, north or southbound, at this station until further notice.”
MARTA police bomb squad was on the scene along with members of the Atlanta Police Department and agents with Homeland Security.
MARTA spokeswoman Alisa Jackson said trains on the north and south lines were continuing through the station without stopping. No bus bridge had been set up since the adjacent stations, Peachtree Center and North Avenue, are within walking distance of the Civic Center station, she said.
Stay tuned for further developments.
