Terri Hymes, 30, was charged with disorderly conduct, public drunkeness, endangering the welfare of children and recklessly endangering another person after leaving her 2-year-old son in a hot car while she got drunk inside of a Pittsburgh bar, reports AJC.com.
Archie Howard, 27, who identified himself as the child’s stepfather, faces the same charges.
Police were called to the scene around 12:30 a.m. Wednesday morning.
“And indeed, (they) found a 2-year-old male toddler in a car seat, in the back seat slumped over, sweating a lot and not being responsive,” said Pittsburgh Public Safety Information Officer Sonya Toler. “This was a very humid night.”
According to investigators, the windows of the car were cracked, however the temperature at the time was 80 degrees with 70% humidity. The boy was taken to a local hospital where he was treated and released.

The criminal complaint stated, “as police gathered outside the vehicle waiting for medics to arrive, the mother exited the bar and attempted to get in the car and drive away.”
Officers said Hymes was visibly intoxicated.
Howard left the bar a short time later, and police said he caused a “disturbance with his voice, and failed to obey police orders.”
The boy is now in the custody of Children Youth and Families.
Hymes and Howard were jailed on $100,000 bond with a preliminary hearing set for July 9.
