Former Hi-Five member Russell Neal was arrested Wednesday and is currently being detained in police custody after his wife was found dead in their apartment.
Neal, whose R&B group soared to the top of the charts with the smash it “Kissing Game,” walked into a Houston police station and told officers his wife was dead inside their apartment in Houston and that he needed a lawyer.
When officers arrived at the house — they had to be let in with the help of firefighters — they found a deceased woman on the living room floor with what they decried as blunt force trauma to the head and stab wounds on the body. Neal began explaining to Houston law enforcement that he and his wife had gotten into an argument Wednesday. But then Neal clammed up and refused to speak to them anymore without legal representation, according to tmz.com.
Generation Xer’s remember the group Hi-Five’s song “I Like the Way (The Kissing Game)” which reached number one on the Billboard charts in 1991 and landed another monster hit with the mid tempo ballad “She’s Playing Hard to Get” in 1992.
The group’s lead singer Tony Thompson famously died in 2007 after inhaling Freon.
The lawyer for Hi-Five, Chris Brown, had this to say:
“We are aware of the situation and are presently evaluating it.”
