Fired! Whoopi Goldberg Stands Alone As Co-Hosts Get Canned On ‘The View’

    In an unexpected shakeup, all but one co-host of the long-running daytime chatfest “The View” remains standing. Newcomer Jenny McCarthy (pictured left) and seven-year vet Sherri Shepherd (pictured right) have reportedly been booted off the show, and Whoopi Goldberg (pictured below) is the only surviving co-host, according to the New York Daily News.

    Reportedly, ABC officials made the announcement that there would be major changes coming down the pike, with regards to the show, on Thursday night. On the heels of the corporate announcement, Shepherd and McCarthy took to social media to confirm their sudden departure.

    whoppiAccording to Lauri Hogan, a spokesperson for “The View,” “the show will be moving in an exciting new direction next season and ABC has made decisions to evolve the show creatively.” In addition, unnamed sources reportedly told the news source that talks between Shepherd’s camp and the network could not come to any mutual agreements, so the comedienne and actress will move on. The source also stated that ABC made the decision not to renew McCarthy’s contract, which comes to an end in July.

    As far as what the show’s once-lead host and now-executive producer Barbara Walters has to say about the firings, she is yet to comment.

    There have been reports that the show’s executive producer Bill Geddie has also been let go, but reportedly, he is still in contract negotiations and is expected to make a comeback.

    Is parting such sweet sorrow?  

    Well Shepherd, who is also in the throes of a nasty public divorce from her husband of only three years, Lamar Sallytweeted this message with regards to her abrupt departure:

    The number 7 is God’s number of completion & after 7 seasons my time at The View is now complete!  So grateful2 every1 4their love & support.

    Incredibly grateful to my second mom @Barbara Walters  for pushing me beyond my comfort zone – it’s been amazing doing it scared! #joy

    McCarthy, who replaced controversial right-winger co-host, Elisabeth Hasselbeck, was reportedly never a hit with the viewers, but she had these parting words to share with her Twitter followers:

    “If Sherri goes I go too. #sisters. My view will be changing too. … Thanks to everyone at the show for your dedication and an amazing year.”
