Neil deGrasse Tyson’s Ship of the Imagination makes its final journey of the season this Sunday as Fox’s “Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey” wraps its first run.
The episode, titled “Unafraid of the Dark,” will explore the mystery of dark energy and some of Swiss astronomer Fritz Swicky’s theories relating to supernovae, neutron stars and “standard candles.”
FOX took a gamble on airing this 13-episode follow up to Carl Sagan’s 1980 series, “Cosmos: A Personal Voyage,” particularly considering its primetime Sunday timeslot historically reserved for animation.
Executive produced by Seth MacFarlane and Ann Druyan (Sagan’s widow), this version managed to average respectable ratings (about 3 ½ million viewers, according to Nielsen).
Below, Tyson says the show’s appeal will alway remain fresh because the series doesn’t focus on the latest developments in science, but rather how science affects our lives.
