ATLANTA — For the first 10 years, many thousands of urban sophisticates flooded the famous Strip (Mandalay Bay Casino in particular) in Las Vegas for the Steve Harvey Ford Hoodie Awards, one of the most popular and heavily attended urban-themed events in the country.

Female favorite Morris Chestnut (“Boyz N the Hood,” “Best Man,” “Think Like a Man”) answers the women’s ear-piercing screams at a previous awards.

Now, with a change in name comes a change in venue. The weekend extravaganza is now called the Steve Harvey “Ford Neighborhood Awards” and the four-day fun fest left the Sin City for its new home in the Capitol of the New South, Atlanta.

Throngs of Steve Harvey fans flocked to the concert and beach party at Mandalay Bay Beach in Vegas to close out each Neighborhood Awards weekend.

Harvey has announced in a statement that he has opened the voting for the 2014 Ford Neighborhood Awards, which recognizes community leaders, businesses, education and churches across the nation with the 2014 Ford Neighborhood Awards Show this August.

What makes this awards special, unique and exciting is that Harvey flipped the script on awards show philosophy: he enlists the help of big-name celebrities to bestow awards and recognition on everyday working men, women and institutions who uplift their communities around the country.

People can vote for their favorite person, business, choir, church and other nominees online at www.SteveHarvey.com.

Harvey asks fans of his show and the Neighborhood Awards to tune in regularly to “The Steve Harvey Morning Show” weekdays for the latest news about the choir competition, the Top 48 Neighborhood Awards finalists who will attend this year’s show, and vote online to pick the winners, who will be announced by celebrity presenters on August 9.IMG_9139

Trust us when we say celebrities will be in abundance during the awards weekend (Aug. 7-10) in Atlanta and will include 10 events at the Georgia World Congress Center, Philips Arena, and other places in the central part of the city.
