Take Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling, who, in a new taped phone call asked a friend, “You think I’m a racist?”
The recording, this time obtained by RadarOnline and reported by the Post continues, “You think I have anything in the world but love for everybody? You don’t think that! You know I’m not a racist!”
Can you imagine the extremely “pregnant pause” that surely must have occurred on the line then.
According to the report, Sterling admonished his friend for not knowing that as a basketball executive he couldn’t possibly hate black people.
“I mean, how could you think I’m a racist knowing me all these years?” he added. “How can you be in this business and be a racist? Do you think I tell the coach to get white players? Or to get the best player he can get?”
With all of his NBA privileges stripped “for life” by NBA Commissioner Adam Silver following a leaked recording of him telling his “archivist,” V. Stiviano, who’s half black, to stop associating with blacks and not to bring them to games, Sterling may be in need of a quick reminder – accompanied by a mirror – of what a racist is.
And with obvious reference to Silvers intent to have him sell his ownership of the team he states:
“You can’t force someone to sell property in America!” Sterling said in the new recorded conversation. “I’m a lawyer, that’s my opinion.”
He also admonished Magic Johnson, one of the people that he expressly told Stiviano not to hang out with.
“It breaks my heart that Magic Johnson, a guy that I respect so much, wouldn’t stand up and say, ‘Well let’s get the facts. Let’s get him and talk to him.’ Nobody tried. Nobody!” he said.
All anyone can do at this point is shake their head.
