Are you a young Black professional looking for social events outside of the party scene? If so, this may be the solution for you.
“I Don’t Do Clubs,” a new app geared toward urban professionals living in major cities, officially launched this week. With a quick search on your iPhone or Android, the application helps you step up your social experience by providing a variety of events in your area.
The idea started as a blog. Founder and editor-in-chief Genese Jamilah wrote about her experiences after relocating from Georgia to New York in 2007.
“It was really kind of depressing, like I can’t believe I don’t know where all the black people hang out,” she explained. “In Georgia or Atlanta, you kind of know where everyone is, and most of the people I am around are black people that are professionals.”
Jamilah said she was over the club scene because “people step on your feet and spill overpriced drinks on your clothes.”
“And let’s not forget the random men grabbing your ass as you and your friends hold hands just to make it to the restroom. Nope, I’m good,” she wrote on her blog by the same name. “Don’t get me wrong. I like to dress up, sip cocktails and meet interesting people… just in a more controlled setting.”
Luckily for us - after a few years of research, development and a crowdfunding campaign - Jamilah was able to bring her amazing idea to our fingertips. Check out the site here and give us your feedback, below!
