According to News 12 Director Spike Lee‘s parents’ Fort Greene brownstone was vandalized along with another neighbor’s home less than a week after Lee took a stance against gentrification.

News 12 reports that a neighbor relayed that the vandalism happened Thursday night at their home on Washington Park.

The suspect spray-painted “Do The Right Thing” on their home and smashed a window on their front door.

One of Lee’s most popular movies was called “Do The Right Thing” and was released in 1989.

Lee’s brother, Arnold Lee thinks his family’s house was targeted because of Spike’s comments on gentrification.

    Says Arnold,

“Spike needs to stop with whatever situation he talked about over here because he doesn’t live here and he is not involved in it. It’s freedom of speech. Say what you want about whatever topic, but don’t make it personal.”

The police are still in the process of investigating the crimes.
