Local Student Wins $1,000 in Peace Essay Contest

Bertha NibigiraBertha Nibigira was honored on Jan. 12 as a winner in the metro-wide Peace Essay Contest sponsored by Atlanta Grandmothers for Peace.
High school students across Atlanta wrote essays analyzing the use of drones by the U.S. government; five winners shared $1,000 in cash prizes. Nibigira, a student at St. Nicholas Orthodox Academy in Atlanta, drew on her experience as an immigrant from Burundi in writing her essay.
The five winners were announced just before Christmas and honored at an awards ceremony at Oakhurst Presbyterian Church in Decatur.
