Sumpter Dominates the Paint in CAU Lady Panthers Win

CAU_Iyana_Spatcher.jpgWith a game-high 20 points and 13 rebounds, Senior Center Erika Sumpter carried the Clark Atlanta University Lady Panthers to their fourth consecutive conference win with a 69-61 victory over Stillman College Monday in Epps Gymnasium.
With both teams struggling from the field in first half, CAU trailed 26-22 while shooting 28 percent compared to Stillman’s 25 percent. The Lady Panthers (11-3, SIAC 4-0) found their shooting rhythm in the second period and led by as many as 12 points to capture the win.
Sumpter led all scorers on 6-of-11 from the field while Conisha Hicks and Denissea Law contributed 12 and 15 points, respectively. Angel Mitchell led Stillman (4-11) with a team-high 17 points followed by Joclyn Ramos who finished with the team’s only double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
With the win, the Lady Panthers remain in second place in the SIAC East Division behind the Lady Tigers of Benedict College. Next, CAU will host Miles College Thursday, Jan. 16, @ 6 p.m., in Epps Gymnasium.
