Attempted Weave Robbery Leads to Murder Charges For Atlanta Area Foursome

police_scene_seattle.jpgA metro Atlanta woman is dead and four suspects have been charged with murder after a robbery attempt gone wrong in Rockdale County.
The Rockdale Sheriff’s Office says it has charged four suspects – Brandon Jay Lamothe and Jaquan House, both 20 and from Conyers; James Wansley Edwards, 21, of Stone Mountain and Christina Menzies, 19, of Covington – with murder and criminal attempt to commit armed robbery.
A shootout erupted after a group of men and women attempted to rob a couple who had come to a hotel to sell them hair weaves. During the botched armed robbery, which happened earlier this month, 21-year-old Jennifer Menzies was shot multiple times. She later died at Rockdale Medical Center, the AJC reports.
According to Rockdale authorities, Christina Menzies had arranged to meet a man and woman to buy the weave. They agreed to meet in the parking lot of the swimming pool area near a subdivision on Ga. Highway 138/Ga. Highway 20 South.
The paper reports that it is unclear whether Christina Menzies and Jennifer Menzies are related.
The couple told authorities that a group, which included Jennifer Menzies, came out of the bushes and toward their truck, with one member pointing a handgun, according to the sheriff’s office. The couple, who filed the complaint with police, exchanged gunfire with the suspects, resulting in Menzies being shot multiple times.
Christina Menzies reportedly left the scene in a vehicle with Jennifer Menzies. They were headed toward Rockdale Medical when they were stopped by a sheriff’s deputy who called an ambulance to take Jennifer to the hospital.
Christina Menzies was arrested and charged with being a party to the crime of armed robbery and making false statements. House was caught near the scene. Authorities found Lamothe and Edwards two days later, with the help of the U.S. Marshals Service Southeast Regional Task Force.
No trial date has yet been set for the foursome.
