'The Best Man Holiday' Cast Interview: Chestnut and Calhoun Dish

It’s difficult to keep an audience’s attention long enough to do a sequel a year or two after a hit movie, but making one almost 15 years later? Malcolm Lee, who wrote and directed  ”The Best Man,” is betting audiences will welcome back the rom-com like an old friend when “The Best Man Holiday,”  hits theaters on Nov. 15.
The entire cast came back for the sequel, which catches up moviegoers on what their characters have been doing since 1999. That process of catching up extended to cast rehearsals, too. As Morris Chestnut explained to Roland Martin, the actors discussed how their characters would have been interacting over the years since they last appeared onscreen.
“All of those layers, of everything we did, during rehearsals showed up on the screen,” he said.
Chestnut also addressed what went into him shedding layers for a shirtless scene (as if female fans actually needed a reason to see that). After all, his character is still an NFL player after 14 years. “It was important for me to sell that physically, so I had to look the part,” said the 44-year-old actor, who dropped weight for the role.
