V-103, 1380 WAOK, & Let Us Make Man will host a town hall meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 29 from 7pm – 9pm, featuring Attorney Mawuli Mel Davis’ presention on “The Consequences of Thug Life” at Greater Travelers Rest Baptist Church 4650 Flat Shoals Parkway, Decatur 30034.

In the aftermath of George Zimmerman being acquitted for the murder of Trayvon Martin, V-103 and WAOK initiated a year-long commitment to organizing community town hall meetings that organizers say will inspire and educate families on a monthly basis. V-103 and WAOK chose the Let Us Make Man (LUMM) organization as a partner to deliver educational presentations to the community.

V-103and WAOK identified religious institutions willing to open their doors to the community to host these town hall meetings for a full year and Pastor E. Dewey Smith, Jr. of the Greater Traveler’s Rest church family will be hosting October’s gathering.

“Consequences of Thug Life” is the fourth Town Hall Meeting topic in this series, created and facilitated by Davis of the Davis, Bozeman Law Firm and founding member of Let Us Make Man. Davis is a recognized criminal defense and trial lawyer.

During the interactive presentation, Davis shares stories of the demise of minority youth highlighting basic laws and poor decision making attached to overly glorified images of “gleaming gold chains and endless stacks of money.”

“We started this program because a young man on the other side of the prison glass said if he had known about the consequences of actions, he would not have done the crime,” said Davis. “Our mission and responsibility as a firm was clear, to let young people know about the consequences of their actions to ensure they are making informed decisions in life.”

Previous town hall meetings in the series included “Awakening the Genius in Black Youth” and “Restoring the Black Family.”
