When it comes to tight four-part harmony, it is doubtful that any group could surpass Take 6, the a capella group that is in the midst of celebrating their 25th anniversary.

“Incredible,” “extraordinary” and “awesome” are among the adjectives that have been chosen to describe them.

Take 6 was formed on the campus of Oakwood College in Huntsville, Alabama. The group’s members are Alvin Chea, Mark Kibble, Claude McKnight (brother of Brian McKnight), Joey Kibble, David Thomas and Khristian Dently. The two former members are Mervyn Warren and Cedric Dent.

The dynamic sextet, who sing jazz, gospel, pop and much more, has been honored many times, including 10 Grammy Awards and two NAACP Image Awards.

Take 6 is unique, which is a rarity.

In a recent interview, McKnight said, “What happens a lot of times is that people hear something and try to do something similar. Do what is uniquely yours. Do something that identifies you so that when people hear you, they don’t say you sound like so and so. You sound like you.”

The Take 6 discography includes the albums Take 6 (1988), So Much 2 Say (1991), Join the Band (1994), Best of Take 6 (1995), Brothers (1996), So Cool (1998), Greatest Hits (1999), Tonight: Live (2000), Beautiful World (2002), Feels Good (2006), The Standard (2008) and One (2012).
