All is reportedly clear now at the U.S. Capitol building in Washington D.C. after a brief scare involving a woman, a gun and the U.S. Secret Service. A motorist apparently trying to get through security barriers on Pennsylvania Avenue near the White House was chased by police, according to the Secret Service. A government official said gunfire was exchanged at Capitol Hill, with one officer injured.

The suspect in the shooting situation at the U.S. Capitol is a female, multiple sources told CNN’s Deborah Feyerick Barbara Starr and Peter Morris.

NBC News reported earlier recently that the U.S. Capitol is no longer on lockdown after 10-15 shots were fired in the area about 2:30 p.m., U.S. Capitol Police confirmed.

It is not believed to be an active shooter situation, and the shelter-in-place order has been lifted.

At least one Capitol Police officer was injured. An injured officer was airlifted to an area hospital.

Earlier, a female driver tried to ram her car into a White House gate and was chased by Secret Service toward Capitol Hill.

Eyewitness Brian Johnson told CNN he saw three police cars rush by the Senate Hart Office Building during a chase. He said he heard gunshots and a loud crash.

The House recessed, and the Senate went into a quorum call. Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-Hawaii) said she was told to shelter-in-place. Pennsylvania Avenue is closed in the area, and tourists were evacuated.
