Attorney Tyronia “Ty” M. Smith, managing partner at the Atlanta law firm of Chester Jennings & Smith LLC, received the 2013 American Bar Association Rosner & Rosner Young Lawyers Professionalism Award at the ABA Annual Meeting in San Francisco.

Smith is the first Georgia lawyer to be honored with the award.

Smith was honored for her work and leadership with a variety of programs serving the legal community and the public, including creating a network of young lawyers to address legal needs of victims following widespread flooding in Georgia and implementing a “Serving our Seniors” public service project to assist senior citizens with legal documents.

Smith is a founding member of the Judicial and Public Office Academy in Atlanta that provides guidance to African-American female attorneys who desire to run for elected public or judicial offices. She also serves as a member of the ABA House of Delegates and vice coordinator of the membership board for the ABA Young Lawyers Division. Smith received a JD from Wake Forest University School of Law.

The American Bar Association boasts 400,000 members around the nation and is one of the largest voluntary professional membership organizations in the world.

The award recognizes young lawyers who are dedicated to legal professionalism. The award is supported by the ABA Rosner and Rosner Justice Fund and administered by the ABA Center for Professional Responsibility.
