With the discipline that can only come from being on the pro circuit for 14 years, James Blake patiently went the pace with young American Tim Smyczek to win the first round of the BBT ATLANTA open.

Blake, 33, won in three sets, 7-6 (4); 4-6; 7-6 (4).

With 58 percent first serve winners, 10 aces and 71 percent break points saved, Blake endured the more than two hour match by containing rallies and aggressive play at the net.

The third annual BBT Atlanta open, played at Atlantic Station, host well know ATP circuit favorites, John Isner (USA), Mardy Fish, Lleyton Hewitt, and local tennis favorite Donald Young.

Blake’s win will have him face Evgeny Donskoy (RUS) in the second round. Other winners on Wednesday include Lleyton Hewitt (AUS), and Christian Harrison (USA).

The BBT Atlanta open is a Emirates Airline US open series tournament ATP 250 tournament with prize money at $98,000. More information about the tournament can be found at www.bbtopenatlanta.com
