Atlanta Public Schools Announces School Closings, Site Changes For Upcoming School Year

    Atlanta Public Schools announced Wednesday that students attending a number of schools within the district will have to relocate during the 2013-14 school year as a result of new construction, renovations and school closures during the 2012-2013 term.

    Students at Bunche, Coan, Kennedy, Parks, Sutton, Sylvan Hills middle schools; Maynard Jackson and North high schools; E. Rivers Elementary School and Wesley International Academy (K-8) will all be affected by the changes.

    The table below details specific changes to each school and where students are expected to report once school begins.

     

     

    Bunche Middle School

    Will temporarily relocate to the former Archer High School facility during the renovation of Bunche Middle School.

    2250 Perry Blvd., NW, Atlanta, GA 30318

    Coan Middle School

    Will remain at the former E. Lake Elementary School facility until end of school year. 145 Fourth Ave., S.E., Atlanta, GA 30317

    Kennedy Middle School

    Drew Charter School grades 6-9 will temporarily use two upper floors of Kennedy Middle School during their campus expansion.

    225 James P. Brawley, Dr., NW, Atlanta, GA 30314

    Maynard Holbrook

    Jackson High School

    Will remain at the Coan Middle School facility until end of December 2013. 1550 Hosea Williams Dr., NE, Atlanta, GA 30317

    North Atlanta High School

    Will permanently relocate to a new campus.

    4111 Northside Parkway, Atlanta, GA 30327

    Parks Middle School

    Students will merge with Sylvan Hills Middle School and will be temporarily housed at the Parks facility.

    1090 Windsor St., SW, Atlanta, GA 30310

    E. Rivers Elementary School

    Will temporarily relocate to the Sutton Middle School campus during construction of a new facility.

    4360 Powers Ferry Road, NW, Atlanta, GA 30318

    Sutton Middle School

    Will permanently relocate to the former North Atlanta High School facility. 2175 Northside Drive, Atlanta, GA 30305

    Sylvan Hills Middle School

    Will merge with Parks Middle School.  Sylvan will be housed at the former Parks Middle School facility until the construction of a new facility is completed on their existing campus.

    Wesley International Academy (Charter) (K-8)

    Relocating to the old Cook Elementary School building located on Memorial Drive.

    In addition to the changes in location and mergers of some schools, a number of schools will also be closing, including Atlanta Preparatory Academy and Parks Middle School, which will be redistricting, according to a release from APS.

    Students at Atlanta Prep will return to their originally zoned APS schools and students at Parks are merging with Sylvan Hills Middle School and will be housed at the former Parks Middle School site.

     

    The district also announced two new schools – Westside Academy, an elementary school with a 120 student capacity, and KIPP Vision Primary school, a 100-student kindergarten that will be housed in the same building as KIPP Vision. Both schools will be located in Atlanta, Westside at 1903 Drew Dr. and KIPP at 660 McWilliams Rd., SE.
