An anonymous donor recently gifted Clark Atlanta University with $32,000 worth of trees from the Legacy Tree Project.

“This generous donation of new trees will help to create a campus atmosphere of permanence and beauty for attracting prospective students, provide outdoor ‘rooms’ where classes meet, colleagues talk, and students play and study,” Bonita Dukes, the associate vice president for business services at CAU, told the AJC.

The gift provided the school with 22 new trees.

“Also, since trees play such an important role in the quality of life, we are especially grateful to incorporate this gift into the university’s livable footprint,” Dukes added.

The 22 trees are meant to help enhance the aesthetic appeal of the campus, and according to the Arbor Day Foundation each individual tree that is planted can have a profound environmental impact. In 50 years, one large tree can create over $160,000 worth of environmental benefits, the organization said. These benefits include generated oxygen, recycled water, and control of air pollution and soil erosion.
