The corner of 10th St. and Piedmont Ave. will be the site of an Atlanta celebration for the Supreme Court’s decision in favor of same-sex marriage Wednesday.

Members of the LGBT community and supporters are expected to take to the streets of Midtown beginning at 5 p.m. to celebrate this morning’s rulings on the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) and California’s Proposition 8 banning same-sex marriage. The Court struck down key provisions in both laws, giving benefits to gay couples and ruling that many barred from marrying in California could go forward with ceremonies.

The gathering is said to be at the intersection of 10th Street and Piedmont Ave, not necessarily inside the 10th and Piedmont restaurant. A Facebook page for the rally indicated at press time that more than 300 people have said they are planning to attend the celebration.

Members of the group posted various videos, ranging from the Barbara Streisand and Julie Garland rendition of “Get Happy/Happy days are Here to Stay” to “Get Me to the Church on Time” a standard from the Broadway musical “My Fair Lady” and even “Ding Dong the Witch is Dead” from “The Wizard of Oz.”

There was no word on the group’s Facebook page or 10th and Peidmont’s website that the restaurant was involved in or was sponsoring the event.
