Not only is Tyler Perry not engaged, contrary to some previous reports, the media mogul isn’t sure he’d be a great husband.
Though some might consider him on top of the list of black, successful, eligible bachelors, Tyler said he’s too busy to settle down.
“I’m not so sure—with this kind of work ethic—what type of husband I’d be,” Tyler recently explained to Jay Leno.
The Single Moms Club filmmaker is much more confident in his ability to be a great dad.
“I don’t know so much about marriage as much as I do know that I’d be a great father,” he said, admitting that the desire comes and goes. “I’m working really, really hard right now. I don’t want to do it wrong… I want to focus.”
Tyler spent the day with the young actors who star in the upcoming movie, and he described his time with children as “pure birth control.”
“They were wonderful, joyous, beautiful little bundles of joy and I was so glad when they went home,” he said. Now in his early 40s now, Tyler told Steve Harvey in April that he’s thinking of starting his family in two years, when he’s 45.
While Tyler’s not sure if he’ll marry before starting his family, he said plenty of women have expressed interest in being his romantic partner and have even sent him photos to pique his interest.
“Some of these I wouldn’t even show anybody, man,” he laughed. “They make me blush.”
