Candice Glover, ‘American Idol’ winner

A God-given, awesome voice. Consistently excellence performances. Poise. Charming personality. Professionalism. Dazzling smile.

Candice Glover just had to emerge the winner in season 12 of “American Idol.” Anything less would have been a travesty. The announcement was made on Thursday night, May 16, on the popular show’s highly anticipated season finale.

Glover, who had auditioned twice before unsuccessfully, was overwhelmed. The viewing audience, the judges and the studio audience were also overwhelmed when, earlier in the show, Glover was joined by superstar season 3 finalist Jennifer Hudson for an amazing rendition of Natalie Cole’s “Inseparable.” It was one for the history books.

Glover, 23, was born n Beaufort, South Carolina. She said she had always been “the most insecure person in the world” and is grateful to “American Idol” for helping her to grow out of that insecurity.

Candice Glover is the fourth African-American to win the “American Idol” title, preceded by Ruben Studdard, Fantasia and Jordin Sparks.
