In the midst of madness in Boston, thousands gathered throughout Metro Atlanta to take part in the city’s festivals held during the weekend.

More than 35,000 people attended the SweetWater 420 Fest in Candler Park on Friday and Saturday, with thousands more flocking to Piedmont Park for 77th Annual Atlanta Dogwood Festival.

Three people were killed and almost 200 were injured after two bombs exploded Monday during the final moments of the Boston Marathon.

As a result of the attacks, Atlanta officials took proper precautions to heighten security citywide to make sure weekend plans ran smoothly.

“The crowd has been very receptive to the wonderful spring weather and fantastic art,” executive director of the Dogwood Festival Brian Hill told the AJC.

There were several reports of suspicious packages across the city, but none that turned out to be a threat.

Only a handful of minor incidents occurred over the weekend, with the most serious being three people robbed at gunpoint at the corner of 10th St and Argonne Ave outside Piedmont Park Friday evening.
