A man was killed Saturday afternoon after hitting a utility pole at the corner of MLK Drive and Ollie Street in the Washington Park neighborhood. Speeding is believed to be the reason for the crash.

The victim, whose identity is still anonymous, lost control of his 1971 Chevrolet Chevelle around 4 p.m. while driving east on MLK at a high rate of speed.

Police believe the motorist was trying to change lanes coming out a curve and then crossed over the double yellow lines losing control of the vehicle, running into a telephone pole.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
