Samsung’s Galaxy S4 will be available for preorder exclusively for AT&T customers starting April 16. Although AT&T customers are promised first dibs, there is no official word on when the smartphone will officially be released.

The Galaxy S4 is slated to cost $250 with a new two-year contract. The price of this particular smartphone is up about 25% from the previous version and about that much more than Apple’s iPhone5. Both were initially priced at $200.

Most smartphones are priced at about $200 although more expensive gadgets are not unheard of. Aside from the Galaxy Note II, the only phone to exceed that price this year was the Motorola Droid Razr Maxx. Its costly price tag was mostly attributable to its battery.

In the past, phones like the HTC Thunderbolt and the Samsung Epic 4G surpassed the $200 threshold.

The Galaxy S4 features a five-inch screen, a 13-megapixel camera and a giant battery. Some of its most highlighted features include eye control, smart audio settings and an instant translation tool.
