According to authorities in Seattle, a store owner was beaten by an elderly woman with her cane after he allegedly verbally attacked her and other people, yelling racial slurs at them on a sidewalk last week.
Seattle’s KOMO news reports the suspect told officers that he confronted the woman because she did not pay him for hair clippers he sold her. It is alleged that he approached the woman and told her he was going to cut her head off and stick it down her throat.
Bystanders told officers the suspect started yelling racial slurs at the group before getting in one particular woman’s face and pointing at her.
According to the Seattle Police Department, officers arrived shortly after midnight at the 500 block of Third Ave. to discover the suspect still screaming racial slurs at a group of mostly black patrons outside a nearby business.
Reportedly, the woman hit the man in the face with her cane in retaliation to his threat.
“I advised [the suspect] that some people get offended when you use certain words,” Officer Crumpton wrote in the report for the incident. “He stated he did not care and was proud to be a ‘white cracker.'”
According to the police, the suspect’s lip was cut badly enough to require stitches.
While Washington state is considered one of the more liberal states in the nation, Seattle has a history of racial tension.
