Three Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) basketball teams earned Top Ten honors in the NCAA Division II men’s and women’s South Regional rankings, the conference recently announced.

The announcement came just prior start of the 80th SIAC tournament, which begins today (Feb. 25) at Morehouse College.

On the men’s side, Benedict College and Morehouse made the South Region Top Ten men’s list, while Tuskegee University was the lone women’s team from the conference in the rankings.

Winners of 14 of its last 15 contests, Benedict, (18-6, 14-2 SIAC), entered the first Regional Ranking ranked No.6. The Tigers took control of the SIAC East Division with 77-70 win over Morehouse last week at the Benjamin E. Mays Arena in Columbia.

Morehouse started the season 1-6, but went on a tear by winning 17 of its last 19 games, including 14 in the SIAC, to create distance from its opponents. As a result, the Maroon Tigers are ranked No. 10 in the regional rankings and remain a game outside of first place in the SIAC East Division going into tournament play.

Undefeated in SIAC women’s action is Tuskegee, which boasts one of the top teams in the region. The Lady Tigers, (17-6, 14-0 SIAC), are ranked No. 3 in the Division II South Region women’s rankings and have already clinched the SIAC West Division title.
