Former Yonug Jeezy Protege Freddie Gibbs Speaks on New Project With Madlib

Freddie-Gibbs-10

Freddie Gibbs, who not long ago referred to himself as “the coldest free agent in the game,” announced recently that he’s planning a larger, full-length project with the producer tentatively titled “Cocaine Pinata.”

“It’s gonna be dope,” surmised a typically concise Gangsta Gibbs.

The Gary, Ind., native had been signed to Young Jeezy’s CTE entertinment, but a few tweets back in December hinted that a rift between the two may have been brewing. In addition to his “coldest free agent” remarks, Gibbs’ Str8 Slammin’ affiliate Hit Skrewface made some waves of his own on social media calling out Jeezy and suggesting he might be removing Gibbs from songs that he wrote.

But back to the Madlib collaboration, Gibbs talked about how he joined forces with the super producer.

“I got the inspiration to do this project from my homeboy Krondon, and Phil [Da Agony], and Mitchy [Slick] – Strong Arm Steady, you know,” he said. “I saw what they did with Madlib: they kickin’ straight street shit, and I was like, ‘Damn.’ That really inspired me – they really inspired me – to get in the lab with Madlib, to be honest.”
