Clark Atlanta dropped a heartbreaking 74-72 overtime loss to Paine College at home Saturday.

In the final seconds of the overtime period, CAU’s sharp shooting guard, James Arnold, hit his third three-pointer of the game that pulled the Panthers within one point of the lead with 54 seconds remaining. But the Lions held on while hitting three free throws down the stretch to seal the win.

After trailing 34-27 at the half, the Panthers continued to struggle from the floor and stared at an 11-point deficit at the 16:33 mark in the second period. A late surged steam rolled Clark Atlanta to a 10 to 3 run to close out the game including a lay-up by Jarrel Joye with two seconds remaining that sent the game into overtime.

Dwayne Bingham led the team with 19 points and 16 rebounds while Joye contributed 16 points and Arnold and Kevin James contributed 13 and 10 points, respectively. CAU edged Paine on the boards 43 to 41 while also shooting 72 percent from the charity stripe.

With the loss, the Panthers fell to 2-13 overall and 1-5 in the SIAC. They will host Benedict College Monday, Jan. 28, at 8 p.m., in Epps Gymansium.
