Jerel Stephenson and Ariel Brown of Paine College are the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Men's and Women's Basketball Players of the Week for the fifth week of the 2012-2013 basketball season, the conference announced today.
Clark Atlanta freshman Dwayne Bingham and Paine sophomore Ashley Watts were
named Men's and Women's SIAC Newcomers of the Week, respectively.

Men's Player of the Week
Jerel Stephenson, Junior, Paine
Position: Forward Height: 6-5 Weight: 225 Hometown: Augusta, GA
Making his first appearance on the hardwood in two seasons, Stephenson, a transfer from UNC-Wilmington scored 23 points, grabbed 11 rebounds, and added three assists in the Lions win over West Georgia over the weekend.
Women's Player of the Week
Ariel Brown, Junior, Paine
Position: Guard Height: 5-9 Hometown: Savannah, GA
Brown recorded a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds in the Lady Lions win over Edward Waters. In the game, she also recorded five steals to pace Paine.
Men's Newcomer of the Week
Dwayne Bingham, Freshman, Clark Atlanta
Position: Freshman Height: 5-11 Weight: 160 Hometown: Slidell, LA
Bingham recorded his first double-double of his collegiate career in the Panthers triple-overtime win over Carver-Bible College. Playing guard, Bingham scored 10 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, while adding four blocks and steals in Clark Atlanta's first win of the season.
Women's Newcomer of the Week
Ashley Watts, Sophomore, Paine
Position: Guard Height: 5-6 Hometown: Augusta, GA
Watts recorded a game and season high 26 points, while adding five assists and three rebounds in the Lady Lions win over Edward Waters.
Other Top Performers
Jerrell Joye, Clark Atlanta
Joye recorded a season-high 26 points on 8-of-16 shooting from the field and 10-of-12 free throws that helped the Panthers win their first game of the season in triple overtime.
Markeith Madison, Stillman
Madison scored 15 points and added 10 rebounds in the Tigers win over West Alabama.
Conisha Hicks, Clark Atlanta
Hicks, led the way scoring 15 points, while shooting 50 percent from behind the arc in CAU's lost to Augusta State. She also had three assists, two steals, and seven rebounds to lead the way.
April Thomas, Albany State
Thomas scored 20 points, and added two steals and rebounds in the Lady Rams' 53-49 loss to Shorter College over the weekend.
Shynita Harley, Fort Valley State
Harley scored 18 points, and grabbed six rebounds for the Lady Wildcats, in its victory over Brewton-Parker. She also recorded four steals in the win.
