Hawks’ forward Josh Smith will make the holidays a little bit happier for 20 children from City of Refuge (1300 Joseph E. Boone Blvd. (formerly Simpson Road)) this holiday season. On Sunday, Dec. 23, Smith has arranged to pick up the children from City of Refuge and treat them to an afternoon full of fun, food, games and gift giveaways at Dave & Buster’s in Marietta (2215 D&B Drive, Marietta, GA 30067).

The City of Refuge is a non-profit organization dedicated to community development efforts that lead to the stability and sustainability of the local community. It is a community in crisis but also a community with hope and resilience. Despite overwhelming social challenges, numbers and need, City of Refuge finds hope everyday in its neighborhood.

The mission of City of Refuge is to bring strength, hope and light to Atlanta’s last, lost and least. The organization believes that while it may sound like an impossible task if volunteers spend a day walking their streets and talking to those who call City of Refuge their home, their place of work and their place of service, and they will start to see that miracles can and do happen.

The event will take place during the day, after the Hawks’ Saturday night game against the Chicago Bulls. The Hawks are 15-8 this season, in second place in the Southeastern division. Smith is averaging a team-high 16.6 points per game this season.
