Metro Atlanta Gas Prices Below $3

Atlanta motorists may have been shocked this morning to look up and see gas prices that began with a 2 instead of a 3 or 4.

Thursday morning’s average price for a gallon of regular unleaded across metro Atlanta was $3.12, according to gasbuddy.com, a site that aggregates average gas prices from around the nation.

That’s nearly the same as one year ago, but a full 10 cents lower than just a week ago and almost 20 cents less per gallon than one month ago.

The lowest price reported early Thursday was $2.99 at Kroger 4920 Roswell Rd NE near Long Island Dr. RaceTrac at 2325 Marietta Blvd NW & Bolton Rd NW, Costco at 2900 Cumberland Mall SE near Cobb Pkwy SE and another Korger at 1160 Moreland Ave SE near Skyhaven Rd also had gas for $2.99.

Some reports found gas for $2.97 or $2.98 at stations in Duluth, Mableton, Kennesaw, Alpharetta and Stockbridge.

The highest price reported by another site, atlantagasprices.com, was $3.69 at a Midtown Citgo station and a Chevron in Marietta.

Statewide, the cheapest gas was $2.89 a gallon at several stations in the Augusta area.

The average price nationwide Thursday was $3.12 a gallon, compared to the national average of $3.22.

Motorists filling up in nearby Southeastern states found gas for even less. There are low prices of $2.75 in South Carolina, $2.79 in Tennessee, $2.80 in Alabama, $2.94 in North Carolina and $2.97 in Florida.
