Former Atlanta Falcons running back Jamal Anderson, the creator of the popular “Dirty Bird” touchdown celebration and dance for the Falcons during their 1998 Super Bowl run, pleaded guilty to reckless driving. It was a reduced charge. Anderson was initially charged with driving under the influence.
He entered the plea on Monday in DeKalb County State Court.
As part of his plea deal, Anderson will serve 12 months of probation and will have to pay a $700 fine, a spokeswoman for Judge Stacey Hydrick said Monday afternoon. Anderson must also complete 64 hours of community service, complete a defensive driving program and attend a drunk driving impact panel, according to his attorney, Michael Hawkins.
Anderson was arrested early July 26 and charged with DUI after he was spotted by a DeKalb County police officer driving slowly and impeding traffic on Chamblee Tucker Road near I-85, police previously said.
“I want to thank everyone who has supported me through this difficult time.” Anderson said through his attorney to the AJC. “From day one I have maintained my innocence to the DUI charge, and I am glad that charge was dismissed.”
