The International Lay Organization of the African Methodist Episcopal (A.M.E.) Church recently observed the 100th anniversary of its founding in 1912. The historic Centennial Celebration was held in the Family Life Center of the largest A.M.E. Church in the state of Georgia, Saint Phillip A.M.E. Church, located at 240 Candler Road, South East, in Decatur, Ga.

Hundreds of A.M.E. officials, clergy, lay leaders and members traveled from five continents (North and South America, Africa, Europe and Asia) to convene in Atlanta to celebrate 100 years of the spirit, mission and service of the African Methodist Episcopal Church’s Lay Organization.

As part of the Centennial Celebration, there was a Time Capsule Planting Service in which numerous A.M.E. historical documents and artifacts will be sealed for decades in a capsule for future generations to open and explore.

Pictured here preparing to bury the time capsule are (back row, from left): Bishop William P. DeVeaux Sr., lay commission chairman; William E.
