Fulton County Commission Vice Chair Emma I. Darnell has been selected by the Georgia Gerontology Society to receive the 2012 John Tyler Maudlin Award. Nominated by the participants of the Dogwood, New Horizons and Northside Shepherd Senior Centers, the John Tyler Maudlin Award is presented each year to an “older individual in Georgia who exemplifies a positive role model of outstanding achievement in the field of Aging.” The award was first given to Dr. Maudlin in 1967 as the First Annual Outstanding Achievement Award.

“I wish to express my deep appreciation to the senior adults of Fulton County and to the Gerontology Society for the honor of this award. ‘ The woods are lovely, dark and deep. But we have promises to keep. And miles to go’…”, said Commissioner Darnell.

The award presentation will be held at 11:00 a.m. at the Senior Citizens Services Center located at 1705 Commerce Drive, N.W., Atlanta, GA 30318 on October 12, 2012. ##
