Greater Women’s Business Council Brings Power Of Partnering Marketplace To City

Special to the Daily World
The Greater Women’s Business Council (GWBC®) will gather at the Atlanta Marriott Marquis Hotel for a two-day conference designed to bring together women-owned businesses, financial institutions, corporations, governmental entities and female executives looking to expand their business horizons. The event is headlined by country recording artist Stella Parton and is expected to address hundreds of women from cities throughout Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina.

The Power of Partnering (POP) Marketplace 2012 will allow business-owners and aspiring entrepreneurs to meet with financing representatives, business industry experts and individuals in positions to help them grow their businesses. The conference opens on Monday, August 27, with tennis and golf tournaments at the Roswell (GA) Country Club. On August 28, the conference will feature three Learning Labs, each focusing on supplier diversity, government procurement and business start-ups.

“GWBC’s region has been ranked in the top ten states as the fastest growing number of women businesses according to the 2012 American Express OPEN’s State of Women Business Report and Georgia is number one. Our certified WBE numbers stand at 900+ and we expect a large portion of these women to be with us in Atlanta at our POP Marketplace,” says Roz Lewis, executive director of GWBC. “We come together to motivate, educate, stimulate, and activate women to take responsibility for their share of the American pie. Through our programs such as Mentor Protégé and GWBC Greater Giving, we give back to the community and help certified women-owned businesses move to the next level of success.”

The Learning Labs at the POP Marketplace 2012 will take place concurrently on August 28, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. and will include sessions entitled The Supplier Connection, Getting Past the Buzzwords in Government Procurement and GWBC Kickstart.

The Supplier Connection is a panel discussion to inform business-owners about procurement opportunities available through an online portal offered through resources of the Small Business Administration, IBM Foundation and more than 16 corporations.

Getting Past the Buzzwords in Government Procurement is designed to familiarize business owners with the buzzwords and acronyms often used in the government contract proposal process.

The GWBC Kickstart session is a panel discussion designed for start-ups, new businesses, entrepreneurs at all stages to learn valuable advice about growing companies from the ground up.

Conference attendees will gain insights about the current economic climate from John Robertson, Vice President and Senior Economist with the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, who is the keynote speaker at the opening plenary at 9:00 a.m. on August 28. The plenary is moderated by WSB-750 AM Assistant Program Director Condace Pressley.

The keynote speaker at the POP Luncheon, also on August 28, will be Stella Parton. This event is moderated by WGCL TV, CBS Atlanta 46 News Anchor Guy Rawlins.
