Gospel Music Association Dove Awards

American Idol Gospel

Powerful voices ruled the night, and multicultural unity took center stage at the recent Gospel Music Association’s 43rd Annual Dove Awards at the Fox Theatre, with a blockbuster show that reached new heights. Choirs, where so many of today’s leading artists got their start, stepped out of the background and into the spotlight throughout the night’s performances.  To bring to life the theme of “Voices,” The Tenors made their Dove Awards debut as the first classical group to ever perform at the awards, with two of gospel’s biggest icons:  Yolanda Adams, shown above center, and Donnie McClurkin, to her left. The evening featured a show-stopping performance by American Idol breakout stars Danny Gokey, Mandisa, Phil Stacey and Ruben Studdard paying homage to the role of faith in their lives with classics ranging from “Lean on Me” to “Send Me An Angel.” The awards ceremony was nationally televised on GMC TV on April 24 at 8 p.m. and 10 p.m.
