Ghana At 55 Celebration, March 10

By Special to the Daily World
The Ghana Council of Georgia will mark its 55th Independence Day by hosting a monumental celebration. The theme is “Working Together to Build A Strong Community.” The event will be held March 10, at the Atlanta Marriott Gwinnett Place, 1775 Pleasant Hill Road, Duluth. The time will be from 8 p.m.- 2 a.m.

The message in itself has great significance. Evelyn Davis, president of the council, is instrumental in assisting with reconnecting African descendants to African culture. The council’s mission this year is to participate in outreach projects to help the community at large gain a greater understanding of African culture, as well as expose the community to business and networking opportunities with Ghana. City Councilwoman Cleta Winslow, will represent the city of Atlanta in commemorating the affair. The event will also feature entertainment from both the African Diaspora and continental Africa. The keynote will be Davis Agyekum, a native of Ghana. The entertainment and awards portion will be co-produced by Goldfire Productions, whose Chief Executive Officer, Shahara Ruth, is an African descendant of the Akan of Ghana.

The show’s hosts will be Rod Minger and Ralph Baffoe. The red carpet will be hosted by Jewel N. Thompson and Kweku Dela Alexander. Several people will be honored including Charmin Lee (actress, director/producer) and Sputnic Erawoc (music producer/manager of Majid Michel).  There will be a red carpet affair beginning at 6:30 p.m. on the day of the event.
