Mayor Kasim Reed, Ambassador Andrew Young and Operation HOPE founder, chairman and CEO John Hope Bryant hosted a reception recently at the W Hotel in downtown Atlanta for candidates interested in applying for the Forum of Global Shapers, Atlanta Hub.
More than 50 young leaders will be selected over the next three years to proactively and positively impact the global agenda through the Atlanta Hub for the Global Shapers Community.
“The incoming class of Atlanta Global Shapers will use their talents to foster fresh ideas and entrepreneurial solutions to some of the most pressing problems facing our city,” said Reed. “They will also collaborate with other Global Shapers worldwide to share ideas and best practices on tackling global problems. I am delighted to be a part of an initiative that will benefit Atlanta and the region while also giving our young, emerging leaders a platform to grow professionally.”
In conjunction with the Young Global Leaders (YGLs) and in affiliation with the World Economic Forum, the Global Shapers are organized in a network of hubs based in major cities around the world. Each hub organizes events and activities to generate a positive impact within their local community.
The initiative is targeted at influential individuals 20 to 30 years in age who possess high moral and intellectual integrity and an entrepreneurial spirit. Selected individuals will serve as members and be mentored by the broader World Economic Forum constituency to focus on issues that affect the Atlanta area and provide strategies for shaping solutions to shared challenges.
Reed and Young will serve as mentors and will collaborate with the group.
In 2005, John Hope Bryant was chosen as a member of the founding class of YGLs for his work to eradicate poverty through his financial dignity nonprofit, Operation HOPE.
He will serve as curator for the Atlanta Hub. Fellow YGL Jamail Larkins, founder and chief executive officer of Ascension Aircraft will serve as chairman for the inaugural Forum of Global Shapers, Atlanta Hub Organizing Committee.
