Coca-Cola Foundation Awards $27M

The Coca-Cola Foundation recently awarded $27 million in community grants to help local communities worldwide, including $6 million in the United States and $3 million to Georgia nonprofits.

The $3 million to groups in Georgia go to organizations for active healthy living, education, civic and youth development initiatives.

Some of the local organizations receiving grants include: The Children’s Museum of Atlanta; YMCA of Metro Atlanta, University of Georgia,  Morehouse College, Wesleyan School, Atlanta Historical Society, National Black Arts Festival, and the Robert W. Woodruff Arts Center.

Also, $550,000 was designated to assist with disaster relief efforts in five tornado affected areas, including Georgia, Alabama and Missouri.

“At The Coca-Cola Company, we are committed to supporting global programs that improve lives and sustain communities,” said Ingrid Saunders Jones, senior vice president of Global Community Connections for The Coca-Cola Company and chair of The Coca-Cola Foundation. “Our goal is to make a positive difference around the world, and we are making a difference through programs that create access to clean water, recycling, fitness and nutrition, and education.”

Of the $27 million allocated by the Foundation, approximately $22 million supports the company’s global philanthropic priorities, including: $12 million for water stewardship projects; $1.2 million for fitness and nutrition programs; $1.6 million for community recycling programs; and $6.8 million for educational initiatives.

Approximately, $5.2 million supports additional local priorities, such as youth development, HIV/AIDS in Africa, and other civic priorities.

The Coca-Cola Foundation has contributed more than $418 million in support of sustainable community initiatives worldwide.
