Shirley Sherrod, who was honored with the Drum Major for Justice “Building Strong African-American Farmers” Award, was asked by Rev. Dr. Joseph E. Lowery, to come to the podium to sing at the Drum Major for Justice Awards Dinner held at the Hyatt Regency on April 4. Lowery was the “Presidential Medal of Freedom” recipient in Civil Rights at the dinner, along with Ambassador Andrew Young (1981), and John Lewis (2011). Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed (background) was the presenter. Mrs. Christine Farris (not shown) and Lowery sang the closing song.
