The Hammonds House Museum and Written Magazine will welcome the co-host of the nationally syndicated “Steve Harvey Morning Show,” Shirley Strawberry, to open their 2011 Wine and Words series with a conversation and signing on Thursday, April 14 at 6:30 p.m.
As a divorced single mom and career woman — a woman willing to let Mr. Right find her — Strawberry has been there, done that. Her popular girlfriend-next-door honesty has earned her millions of fans across the country. Now, they can find her advice on parenting, relationships, career decisions and more in “The Strawberry Letter: Real Talk, Real Advice, Because Bitterness Isn’t Sexy.” The event costs $10 and includes a wine sample and light food fare. Actor, singer and author Tyrese Gibson will share his experiences in an appearance at Spelman College’s Sisters Chapel on April 19 at 6:30 p.m. Gibson, whose singing career started in 1995 with a Coca-Cola ad, encourages readers to pursue their dreams despite life’s obstacles in “How to Get Out of Your Own Way.” From his challenging childhood in Watts to his battle with weight and his recent painful divorce, Tyrese will reveal how he learned to fix what was wrong with his life in order to find peace and fulfillment.
Gibson has appeared in such popular films as “Baby Boy” (2001), “2 Fast 2 Furious” (2003) and “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” (2009). Coming out this spring and summer are “Fast and Furious Five” and “Transformers 3.”
