R. Kelly timeline

February 2002: The Chicago Police Department investigate allegations of child pornography related to R. Kelly based on a videotaped leaked to the Chicago Sun-Times.

June 2002: R. Kelly indicted on 21 counts of child pornography. He was released on $750,000 bail.

September 2003: Pretrial proceedings begin in R. Kelly child pornography case.

February 2004: Prosecutors dropped seven of the 21 counts of child pornography.

July 2006: Trial delayed due to Cook County Circuit Court Judge Vincent Gaughan’s fall off a ladder.

August 2007: Judge ruled that entire videotape can be shown in court.

September 2007: Trial scheduled to begin, but it was postponed until 2008 because lead prosecutor Shauna Boliker gave birth.

April 2008: Judge holds several closed-door sessions. Media legally objects and files motion to get proceedings unsealed.

May 2008: Court denied media’s motion to intervene. Judge denied defense’s repeated requests for a trial delay. The trial starts.

June 2008: Jury finds R. Kelly not guilty on all counts.
